Bring Me The Serenade

So this is another non-ranty blog of mine.

its about the infamous Bring me the Horizon and the ever so famous Secondhand Serenade; two of the most different opposite bands that you'll find out there! I dont know the people of these two bands as much cause theyre not as important to me as Saosin and A Skylit Drive but i still love these two bands.
First off, Bring me the horizon (BMTH). This is a band from England. They're genre? sick ass Deathcore! Growls, screams, shouts, squeals are all theyre made of. But lets not forget the background shall we? While Oli Sykes is up front screaming his tattoo covered lungs out, the rest of the band is strumming, plucking, and drumming with all their power. The drummer does A LOT of roundhouse drumming (going around the whole drumset). His double bass skills are very very good (for a mainstream band). He can keep the tempo going (considering the fact that BMTH goes at a very fast rate). While the drummers killing himself at the drums, the two guitarists match up to make the perfect percussive and melodic mixup. The rhythm guitarist is constantly using different muted chord techniques, changing tempos various times (resulting in a lot of breakdowns). The lead guitarist a pro though! His picking and strumming is the best ive heard on a deathcore band. He plays constant solos even while Oli's still screaming. Then the rhythm guitarist plays a strong ass buildup and the drums crash and all of a sudden the lead guitarist is playing a solo. Almost every single song, and none of them sound alike. He goes for about half a minute, accompanied by the drummers double bass and occasionally the bassists melodic bass riffs. Then the band returns to their original slower tempo (which was like 180 bpm [beats per minute] to begin with anyhow) and they play for a bit more cuz the solo usually tells you the songs almost over. The songs are usually about revenge, death, and other cliched metal/hardcore themes. BMTH is good to listen to when you're mad or need to get through a challenge (somewhat like ASD) but these guys are like an EXTRA power boost if you really listen to them. With killer lead riffs, muted chords that are played so uniquely they sound beautiful, bass lines that are way different than the normal bumbumbum bassriff that they usually play, drums that could make your ear bleed if you're not used to it, and screaming and growling that could scare a 50 year old warrior. BMTH is a band to die for and if you get in Oli's way, you probably will.
The next band is Secondhand Serenade (SS). SS is actually a one person band (originally just John Vesely, now accompanied by unofficial background instruments). His debut album, was all acoustic. He used double tracking to make it sound like theres a whole band playing when its just him and his beautiful guitar/voice. His songs are normally about heartbreak and love. His smooth acoustic guitar playing blends perfectly with his even smoother voice (occasionally cracking but it makes the song sound even more natural.) His more recent album, A Twist In My Story, is also accompanied with background instruments (rhythm guitar, bass, and drums) Though this was a BIG change for John, it made his songs 100 times better. His songs themes still stayed the same but now they had more of a...i dont know how to say it, but they were just MORE. SS is perfect to listen to when you're in an emotional mood or you miss/lost someone. It will probably just make you feel worse but in a good way. His songs will give you a tingly good feeling after you're done and you'll be smiling soon, not because of his emotional lyrics, but of his beautiful guitar playing skills and his even better voice. Honestly the only flaw is his repetitive theme that seems to show up in his lyrics, but who cares about that! its beautiful either way so SS is a band that you do NOT want to miss. P.S. You probably already know about him cause hes hella famous now, but if you dont, give him a try. you wont regret it.
So these two bands are totally opposite in genre and music. One screams, the other sings. One has strong double bass, the other is just your standard 4 or 8 beat drumming. But they both appeal to me, in different ways true, but also in the same way. They're both emotionally strong and you can tell they put passion into their music. This isnt something i wouldnt normally say. You want to hear a passionless band (theyre good, just not too different), then try Take The Crown, All Time Low, The Starting Line, or Paramore. These bands are nothing but reruns of each other. (They're not bad to listen to, but honestly i dont see them as really good music). If you want some music that'll probably mess up your ear drums if you listen to it louder than like the decibel level of a whisper, try out BMTH. If you want some beautiful music full of...beauty. try out Secondhand Serenade. Tell me what you think about them after trying! =]

Ooh I really like Secondhand Serenade. Suggestion: you should totally do some type of music featuring thing. Or turn this blog into a music blog!
