Underground VS. Mainstream?

Alright well here's the reply to one of the blog suggestions. Once again, thanks for the ongoing support <3

Anyways, underground and mainstream music, two different branches of music, so important in society that they're almost GENRES now.

Underground, or Indie, music is music that's less known by people. Stereotypically, these musicians put more passion and effort into their music to try and deliver the best entertainment as possible. They don't care for the fame or money, they just do what they love to do.
Then there's mainstream. Mainstream bands are more famous. Their loyal fans see them as sell outs usually because sometimes they are. They change their music because their new record label tells them to. They start playing for fame and money rather than pure satisfaction.
These two are STEREOTYPES, they aren't true for every single indie or famous band.
Well I think that they both have their cons. Indie bands are way too cliche'd nowadays. They promote the fact that they're indie with random ass names and make the same type of music as every other indie band, in most cases. Then some of them actually reach for stardom and those that do nowadays try to keep as close to their original roots as possible. I preferably actually like indie bands only because some are starting to be more different than others. They aren't afraid to push the limits of music to the point where the fans can't get enough of them. The shows that they perform are also amazing. With their lower number of listeners (usually of a certain group of people) they do unusual things that fit the listeners interests, making for a perfect show.
Mainstream bands nowadays are now trying to hold onto their original music. But then can you really blame them? I mean think about it, you make barely any money writing music and stuff, with no record label, then along comes a big ceo of some record company and offers you millions, what do you give them back in exchange? A minor tweak in your music. Some kids really need to think about this before they start dissing a band for "selling out." The money that mainstream bands get after signing to a larger label isn't something of small importance. Sure they love making music, so they continue to do so, but now they just haveta do it a bit more differently for a larger salary.
Some people are aspiring musicians that like to cover songs of bands. Well these musicians probably usually prefer to cover the more famous or somewhat famous bands out there, because let's be honest, speaking technically, they are usually better. Why do I say this? Because if they were discovered rather than another band, they're probably better than that other band. The mainstream bands I listen to are amazing, fantastic, but they all have one thing in common, weak riffs, repetitive double bass drumming, and power chords galore! I'm not saying all indie bands are like this, like I stated before, these are the ones I listen to. But it's basically the same for most of them. Find 5 or 10 indie bands of the same genre and listen to them. They are usually very similar. The one really spectacular thing about indie bands over mainstream bands is the lyrical meaning. Indie bands have beautiful lyrics that take time to listen to and then you ponder about what they're tring to say. You try to use the title as a root to help you, but then you realize the title has little to do with the song itself. Mainstream bands tend to mash the title into the chorus of the song and then the lyrics become less mysterious, making it easy to decipher which is a better thing for most people.
I realize I talked more about underground/indie music and that's my fault, I become a bit biased sometimes and honestly, indie music is my main love. They both have great bands. Saosin, my favorite band, is in between. It's on Capitol records but it's not one of the most famous bands out there (unless you're into the rock/"emo" scene). They have a lot of differences, but they're not the "passion/sell out" things that everyone brings up whenever a indie vs. mainstream discussion comes out. Mainstream bands aren't sell outs, they are usually just people that need more money and to do so they needta follow drastic measures, and don't even lie to yourself saying you wouldn't do the same if someone offered you a million dollars to change your song style. So there it is, my thoughts about these two very different, but very similar, semi-genres in music. Go out there and see which one YOU prefer! =]
