So since last Fall (2007) I've been trying to start a band, planning on myself being the screamer/rhythm guitar. But since then I have lost the interest in making a screamo band since so many people do it nowadays. Saosin, my favorite band, has been a huge influence on me the past year or so and I plan on following that. Their guitar and approach to music motivates me to write songs as good and unique as theirs, therefore I did. Also, as the year passed, I got more experienced in playing the guitar and now I am more familiar with techniques and theory. I'm still nowhere near as good as other players of course but I'm doing well. I wrote about 15-20 songs and I'm no less proud with any of the songs. They all came out pretty good and I'm happy with myself. Today I decided to pick out 13 of my best works and put them together in a good order. The order consisted of the last note of the last song and the first note of the second song. So basically if I ended Song 1 on D, I made it so song 2 starts on D or something that would sound good with D. I checked and double checked and thought about it. I am now planning on fully starting the band this year, whether I find one more member or none at all. The only downside right now is that all these songs have guitar parts but no other instruments so I plan on meeting up with Joel soon and starting to get drum parts for all these songs as well (which is 13 by the way.). The rest will come over time, and I plan on writing the lyrics last cause I want to get the instrumentals out of the way.
The main thing that has stopped me so much from making this band is the fact that there's no place for us to have weekly practices or so. Joel, the drummer, can only have one other person in his house but for practice, we'd need at least 4 or 5 and that's unacceptable. I have been lightly looking around for a public place with drums we could use and practice there but so far there's been no luck. Besides this problem, finding a bassist and singer have also been pretty hard. One of my other friends, Res, is planned to be the rhythm guitarist and/or singer but I think he can only be one for this band to work cause we need a Rhythm guitarist that has only one job, and that's playing the guitar. Hopefully this year at Logan will help me find more band members and a place to practice. For now, I just hope that I can go to Joel's house soon and get some drum beats for these songs, one by one. After that I'll start on looking for members and such. Who knows when this'll actually start and who knows when we'll have our first song up and running on MySpace or a demo CD released to local stores, but I know it'll happen one day.
